Dracula - Leonard Wolf, Bram Stoker Reading through Daily Lit. Began 12-9-09.

1-28-10 Back to seriously reading it...the time speaks for itself in terms of interest.

2-4-10 -- it was a struggle to finish! probably largely because of irritation at the expected role of women in the 19th century.

Notes as I read:

Wonder what on earth it was like to read this without having known about Dracula for as long as I can remember.

Ordnance survey maps—they are way cool.

“Get recipe for this….” :-)

Dialects are irritating—and that includes the “American” from Quincey

I find Mina and Jonathan much more interesting than Lucy and her collection of men.

Tooooo long for … to die. Tedious! (the ellipsis is so as not to spoil.)

Oh, honestly, Mina’s symptoms are the same; what is with these guys?

I didn’t know Dracula had a “key basket." :-)

“though it was a bitter pill for me to swallow, I could say nothing, save to accept their chivalrous care of me.”

Great sentence! “Blind after the manner of men, since we can look back we see what we might have seen looking forward if we had been able to see what we might have seen!”
