A Wrinkle in Time - Madeleine L'Engle I never thought the phrase "bland blue eyes" was scarey...until reading those words in the context of A Wrinkle in Time.

Thought while reading: clear evocation of Nazi Germany and fear of the "red menace."

I really wanted to like this. It's a quandary. The audio book was read by the author so clearly the emphases, intonations, etc. were exactly as intended. But I truly hated her voice; it was shrill almost all the time and seriously negatively affected my perception of the book.
