When I first started reading Donna Leon books, I thought how fortunate I am not to live in a country with the kind of corruption described. I am no longer so naive. The Brunetti family is one of the few things that keeps me coming back. Without them, the view of the world here is just too depressing. I fear if I were Brunetti I would engage in some vigilante justice, starting with Pata. But ... I also know it would make no difference.
